Dr. Asha Kishore to head SCTIMST

Dr. Asha Kishore, an eminent neurologist who specialized in ‘Movement Disorders’ has been appointed as the director of Sri Chithira Thirunal Institute of Medical Science and Technology (SCTIMST). She is the first woman to embellish the director position.  The SCTIMST is getting a full-time Director after a gap of two years, following the exit of the former Director K. Radhakrishnan.

Dr. Asha Kishore is one of the first neurologists from India to specialize in the sub-specialty of Movement Disorders from the University of British Columbia, Canada, with additional specialization in neuro stimulation treatment for movement disorders from Emory University, U.S., and Grenoble University, France.

The first Comprehensive Care Centre for Movement Disorders in India was set up at the SCTIMST by Dr. Kishore and her team, which offers advance treatment facilities for patients with conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, from across the country.

She has several national and international research collaborations, as well as innumerable scientific papers to her credit. Dr. Kishore is a member of the scientific committee of the International Association of Parkinsonism and Related Disorders, an invited member of the international consortium of researchers in the Genetic Epidemiology of Parkinson’s Disease (GEOPD) and a member of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society.
