New set of Goal for an Emerging Kerala

The Emerging Kerala 2012 Global connect, a dream event of current Kerala government headed by Mr. Oommen Chandy, ended at Cochin on a high pitch with many takers for many dream projects. The Chief Minister’s speech after the successful conduct of the meet was a clear indication of the positive out­come of the meet as a head of the state. He sets clear targets and vision to achieve the goals for the future of the state.

The Emerging Kerala meet could bring in 45 specific project proposals with an investment of over Rs.40,000 crore. Health and Tourism sectors were the big­gest gainers of the meet. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.s announcement of expansion of Kochi Refinery plant for Rs. 18,000 crore is the largest project in the event.

The healthcare sector is attracting Rs 3,055 crore worth of proposals, includ­ing an investment offer by six companies for Rs 2,655 crore and a partnership project between KSIDC and private entrepreneurs for Rs 400 crore.

Mr. Adi Godrej, President of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) had an­nounced the setting up of a Centre of Excellence in Entrepreneurship in the State. During the meet, 43 business proposals were discussed between different depart­ments of the State and companies from the U.K., the U.S., Japan, and Canada.

A total of 4,676 participants registered for the meet, out of which 2,512 were business delegates, and 2,183 delegates benefited from business-to-business and business-to-government meetings. The State government had earlier announced setting up of the Kerala State Investment Board to speed up clearance for propos­als. Necessary amendments would be made to the single-window clearance Act, including making the application process online.

The sea plane project, major convention centre and many other project moot­ed at Emerging Kerala by Tourism department and its infrastructure arm Tourist Resorts of Kerala, received many interested investors.

Overall the meet ended up in a good positive note for a better and prosperous Kerala. If government implement the project with utmost care and concern raised by many green politicians and environmentalist, then we can looks for a brighter side of Kerala.
